i find it interesting in some forums where they have a reputation system, so that if someone makes a really good post, other people can give them a reputation point if they want to, over time you can see who is contributing the best content to the forum as opposed to purely using the number of posts as an indicator

also on some sites they use a form of gil or game money, where the forum moderators run competitions and get users to post their replys or complete certain tasks in exchange for game money, which they can use to purchase various privileges, gain rights to special ares of the website or to access certain prizes

hey dynamic thanx for the feedback.  i think there's some merit there, i'll have a look into it.....meanwhile we do have a ranking system for post counts, under each user pic there is a smiley face icon...depending on how many posts the user has made, a different icon is displayed...the icons essentially take you thru the lifecycle of starting sober, having a 'big' nite out, followed by the recovery the next day.

another one is there's a blue bar also under the users pic, which essentially shows if the user is a Top 10 contributor, Top 25 contributor etc.

ok kewl, i think it's an issue of quantity vs quality

the system at the mo seems to rank users by the number of posts only

with reputation points the peers judge the quality of the posts

some people may not have time to post lots but they may have really good stuff to contribute

nothing is fool proof but it certainly adds more depth
